Pune: “Can I break this television set?” a Narhe resident nonchalantly asked the staffers after walking into civic health officer Dr Nina Borade’s third-floor office in the PMC main building around 5.30pm on Tuesday. He went on to smash the television set with a stone before anyone could react. The stunned staffers apprehended him and called the Shivajinagar police, who detained him.
As revealed later, senior inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant told TOI, “The 43-year-old man is an unemployed person, who is battling depression and is under medication for some time now. We frisked him and found many anti-depressant tablets and other medicines in his pocket. He had no work at the PMC head office nor any issues with any civic official or employee. We let him go after serving him a notice asking him to cooperate with our investigation as and when called by the police.”
The police said the man reached Nal Stop from Narhe in some vehicle before boarding the metro to get off at PMC metro station. Later, he walked into the PMC main building and moved randomly in the PMC headquarters for a few minutes.
“He reached the third-floor office of Borade, who was not there. Seeing a few staffers were working he asked them if he could break the television set and went on to smash the television screen with a stone,” Sawant said. Ganesh Jadhav (34), a PMC officer, lodged a complaint in this connection.
