Pune: The state education department has introduced an agricultural curriculum for school students from June 2026 to emphasise practical learning and cooperative teaching methods to understand farming. Minister of state for education Pankaj Bhoyar revealed this plan during a recent meeting with education department officers, detailing the incorporation of topics like soil science, crop production, processing techniques, agricultural technology, irrigation, water management, plant protection, horticulture, animal husbandry, and agricultural mechanisation into the school syllabus.Bhoyar said, “The education programme aims to link agricultural studies with rural traditions, local arts, crafts, and geography to make students aware of traditional and modern farming techniques. It will also emphasise the use of scientific tools and technology in agriculture.”He said this curriculum would help students understand the significance of agriculture, particularly in rural contexts, and would provide foundational knowledge for careers in agriculture and allied industries. The programme will be designed collaboratively with experts to ensure a comprehensive educational experience.He said that this stage would lay the foundation for professionalism in areas like agri-tourism and help connect the new generation with agriculture while expanding the use of technology in the sector.
