Pune: Warm conditions are likely to persist in the city during the coming days, even as October progresses, IMD stated in its forecast on Monday.
Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather forecasting division at IMD-Pune, said, “Both day and night temperatures will start falling in November. We expect moisture to drop significantly in November, which is likely to cause clear skies. This would lead to the direct escape of longwave radiation from the earth’s surface into the atmosphere, resulting in a drop in night temperatures. Maximums are also likely to remain moderate in November.”
At present, day temperatures in Pune are hovering in the range of 33-35°C. “While these temperatures might not seem high, the real feel is elevated due to moisture. A higher real-feel temperature can make people feel warmer because these factors can reduce the body’s ability to cool itself, making the environment less conducive to cooling,” he said.
Kashyapi said the minimum temperatures were maintaining levels between 19°C and 20°C.

Maha October temperatures show summer-like swings
The temperatures in Maharashtra are reaching summer-like levels, with some areas experiencing temperatures as high as 37.2oC. The increase in temperatures is due to factors such as sunny skies, less clouding, and the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. The early withdrawal of the monsoon has led to the October heat making its presence felt. The trend of high temperatures may continue until the weekend, with possible relief next week if there is assistance from the western disturbance.
