PUNE: Four men, riding on two bikes, intercepted a food delivery agent, assaulted and robbed him of Rs1,700 and his cellphone worth Rs5,000 in Balewadi around 2.20am on Tuesday.
Victim Saurabh Uttam Gangane (21), who works for an online food aggregator app, was on his way home in Kalewadi after delivering his last food parcel, when the foursome intercepted him near the National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR) College under the pretext of asking him for an address.
After Gangane stopped, one of the men pulled out a long sharp weapon and assaulted him. Gangane attempted to thwart the assault with his bare hands, but the attackers hit him on his hands and head as he fell on the road. He sustained deep cuts to his hands and head. The four men frisked and robbed him before speeding away towards Wakad, said the police. They also took away his ATM card. Gangane later approached the police and lodged a complaint.
A senior police officer told TOI, “CCTV cameras are installed on the spot, but they are not working. Police are trying to identify the vehicles used. There was no one on the road at the time.”
A case has been filed against the accused for charges under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), besides the Indian Arms Act.
