AURANGABAD: A 21-year-old pregnant woman committed suicide at her residence in the Gandhi Nagar area of Aurangabad city on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Aanchal. She had been married to Vishal Ridlon since November 2020.
The Kranti Chowk police said that based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, the process to register an offence against the deceased woman’s in-laws is under way. As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Aanchal was allegedly being harassed and assaulted by her in-laws for petty reasons.
On Monday night, the preganant woman called her mother on the phone and allegedly informed her that she was being assaulted by her mother-in-law, sister-in-law among others.
After all the members of the family had dinner on Monday, Anchal’s husband reportedly left to check piglets at the neighbouring compound. Sometime around 11.30 pm, she went to her room and hung herself.
Soon after the incident came to light, her in-laws rushed her to the Government Medical College and Hospital where she was declared “brought dead”.
On learning about the incident, her family members rushed to GMCH. The incident temporarily caused tensions on the GMCH premises as the family members demanded immediate arrest of her in-laws. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday and the body was handed over to the family for performing last rites.
